Candace Simar, Minnesota Writer

Candace Simar is a writer and poet from Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, in the heart of Lake Country. As a life-long Minnesotan, the grandchild of immigrants, Candace nurtures a passion for Minnesota History. Good news! North Star Press is publishing ABERCROMBIE TRAIL, her historical novel about the 1862 Sioux Uprising. Watch for its release in May of 2009.

COLD METAL received the 2006 Jonis Agee Award for Short Fiction from Bemidji State University. Candace's writing appears in Her Voice Magazine, Lake Country Journal, The Talking Stick, Dust & Fire, Bylines Writer's Calendar, and The Ultimate Christmas. ANOTHER MOTHER'S DAUGHTER, an essay on foster parenting, is included in Mothering in all But Name by Marguerite Bouvard.

Her poetry expresses her deep connection to all things Minnesotan and has received awards from the Bob Dylan Creative Writing Contest, the League of Minnesota Poets, the National Federation of State Poetry Societies, and the Brainerd Writer's Alliance.
