Words are powerful. At the beginning of time, God spoke His word into an empty void and the world came forth. Words start wars and bring peace. Words cut down or build up, encourage or defeat, empower or take away. Words touch us as nothing else. Words are gifts we speak to each other or the weapons we use to wound and destroy.

Candace Simar



Candace Simar, Minnesota Writer

Candace Simar is a poet and writer who lives in Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, in the heart of lake country. As a life-long Minnesotan, the grandchild of immigrants, Candace enjoys a passion for Minnesota history. She is working on a Minnesota Trilogy about Scandinavian immigrants during the 1862 Sioux Uprising and the grasshoppers plagues of the 1870s.

Her poetry often expresses her deep connection to all things Minnesotan and has received awards from the Bob Dylan Creative Writing Contest, The League of Minnesota Poetry Contests, and the National Federation of State Poetry Societies.

Candace's short story, COLD METAL, was awarded the 2006 Jonis Agee Award for Fiction from Bemidji State University's Dust and Fire Anthology. Other short stories have received prizes from Brainerd Writer's Alliance annual contest, been among the finalists for the Writers At Work Contest, and been published in Talking Stick and the Otter Tail Review. Her creative non-fiction appears in The Bible Advocate, Her Voice Magazine, Lake Country Journal, The Country Echo, and other regional publications.

Most of all, Candace enjoys writing inspirational writing about her spiritual journey. Her devotionals have appeared in Reflections, The Spirit-Led Writer, Daily Wisdom, The Daily Encourager, Daily Food for Thought, The Online Christian Magazine, and numerous other online publications.
