Camping by the Springs

Then they came to Elim where there were twelve springs and seventy palm trees, and they camped there near the water. Exodus 15:27

Twelve springs! The Israelites must have felt they had hit the jackpot! Water, fresh flowing water, and seventy palm trees. Of course, they camped by the water. Can’t you imagine how they splashed and played? They drank to their heart’s content and gathered all they could carry to take with them on their journey. Though they arrived at the oasis weary and thirsty, you can be sure they left refreshed and ready to resume their journey.

John 7:38 says that we, as believers, have rivers of living water flowing out of us. This living water not only sustains us but also spills over and blesses others. When we’re foot-sore and thirsty, we find encouragement and support from others in the Body of Christ as we fellowship together. It’s as if we take a drink from the living water within them. Others seek from us this same refreshment.

We live in a troubled world where weary pilgrims travel with heavy hearts. Why don’t you share the living water within you? Someone in your life longs for a drink of life-giving water. Feeling exhausted and foot-sore? Seek fellowship with another believer. Camp by his spring, drink to your heart’s content. Take along a little extra to share with others along the way.

Dear Jesus, we are surrounded by bad news. Help us to turn to you for comfort and guidance. Help us find fellowship with other believers. Send rivers of living water to bring refreshment and relief. Amen.
